    1-OF-A-KIND RARITY!
    ONLY ORIGINAL KNOWN TO EXIST!
Here is simply one of the
    classiest
pieces of movie advertising art ever released by a Hollywood studio!
It's also one of the rarest too, as this is the single only known surviving example.
    BOX OFFICE CARDS
An extraordinarily rare size issued by the major studios thru the National Screen Service [or NSS]. Box Office Cards were made to hang above the ticket counter. They all measure approximately 4 and 3/4 inches by 28 inches. NSS issued this size after World War II, starting in 1948. The size became discontinued about a decade later. Artwork unique to this size was rendered to for all the movies offered in this format. Whoever was commissioned to design these little gems deserves a citation for the amazing artistry demonstrated on the final products, as these have no equals in the movie poster field. They are as effective as any piece of art ever issued for any advertising purposes!
    This "
    The Third Man
" [or "The 3rd Man"] card is one of the greatest examples. It's also one of the greatest 1940's movies! If you're an advanced collector, then you know that the posters issued on this title are weak! Even the original 1949 British posters are
    hideous
. They lack imagination, and, more importantly, they lack class and style. This 1-of-a-kind box office card is a happy exception. It's the only piece that doesn't carry
    cheesy
artwork. The simplicity of this logo art represents the seriousness and good taste carried forth in the film. I
think Welles would even approve! You won't find another. You won't even find a picture of this on the web. That is, except for the ones posted in this listing. I obtained this in a collection of 99 cards found in an old theater back in the late 1980s. I've possessed this card for over three decades now, and, after diligently looking out for them, I've NEVER seen any other collection of these 1940's box office cards surface.
I've never even seen one individual card surface on any other 1940's title. A few (less than a dozen) different 1950's cards have made their way into some auctions, but NO 1940's examples. It's the rarest size of all the studio issued paper from that period.
One of the reasons for the extreme rarity is the fact that these cards are hand-processed serigraphs. Serigraphs are very expensive to make, as each is individually silk-screened. A serigraph is considered a "fine art" process and is not often used for advertisements. Andy Warhol was known for issuing serigraphs. Some of them sell for over 0,000. This is a unique item by anyone’s measurement! Finally, an original piece suitable for framing on this title is available on the collector’s market! Nobody would be able to miss this original piece hanging on the wall when walking into a room. It's class all the way.
If you're an advanced collector, and you want something special to add to your Hollywood art collection, this would make a proud addition. If you want a true 1-of-a-kind art piece that's also a vintage authorized studio issued item - you just found it!
